In a devastating incident that occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. today in Jeffersonville, a full-size school bus and a minivan school bus collided on Route 52. The crash resulted in the tragic death of the minivan driver, identified as 70-year-old Charles McAdam from Loch Sheldrake, who was operating a Rolling V bus company minivan at the time of the accident.

Upon arrival at the scene, Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a full-size school bus travelling westbound that had been struck by the minivan school bus travelling in the opposite direction. Undersheriff Eric Chaboty confirmed that the minivan had crossed the double yellow line, leading to the collision with the full-size bus.

While the driver of the full-size school bus declined medical assistance, the attendant was taken to Callicoon Hospital for evaluation. Additionally, two children who were passengers in the minivan were deemed unharmed and were also transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Emergency response teams from Youngsville Fire, Jeffersonville Fire, Jeffersonville EMS, Upper Delaware EMS, and Bethel EMS, along with assistance from the State Police and District Attorney’s Office, worked diligently at the scene. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Sullivan West Central School District Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Bressler expressed sympathy for all those affected by the incident and commended the swift response of the first responders. County Manager Josh Potosek extended condolences to the families of the injured children and praised the collaborative efforts of local school officials and emergency personnel.

Nick Vallone, executive vice president of Rolling V Corp, conveyed deep sorrow over the loss of Charles McAdam, highlighting his dedication as a driver and valued member of the Rolling V family. Support services, including grief counselling for employees, are being provided, and cooperation with the authorities’ investigation is assured.
