Luwero, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Authorities in Luwero are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the tragic murder of Nduwayesu Marie Rose, a 48-year-old Rwandan national. The lifeless body of Rose was discovered at Klne Guest House in Kizito, Luwero Town Council. Initial reports suggest that the heinous crime took place on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Suspect at Large

The primary suspect in this case has been identified as Gerald Byamugisha, who is currently evading law enforcement. According to Sam Twiineamazima, the spokesperson for the Savannah Regional Police, a man claiming to be Byamugisha made a reservation at the guest house along with the deceased. Rose, who was in possession of a Rwandan National Identity Card, was last seen with Byamugisha at the guest house between 2 pm and 5 pm on Saturday. Byamugisha left the premises alone, leaving no immediate cause for concern.

Gruesome Discovery

The following morning, a member of the guest house staff stumbled upon the lifeless body of Rose. She was found in a disturbing position, with her head forced under the toilet seat and a yellow piece of cloth tightly wound around her neck, indicating she had been strangled. The guest house owner, Kigozi Lameka, was promptly notified, leading to the involvement of Luwero Central Police Station in the investigation. CCTV footage has been retrieved to aid in the ongoing efforts to solve this horrendous crime.

Autopsy and Manhunt

The body of the deceased has been transferred to the morgue at Luwero Hospital for a detailed autopsy. Authorities are not only focused on conducting a thorough investigation but are also actively searching for the prime suspect, Byamugisha, to bring him to justice.

Rising Crime Statistics

The district of Luwero has been grappling with a surge in criminal activities, with the latest police report revealing a significant increase in murders. In 2023 alone, there were 90 reported cases of murder, a substantial rise from previous years. The total number of criminal incidents reported in the district reached 4,111 in 2023, highlighting the pressing need for enhanced security measures and community vigilance.
