The Metropolitan Police Service apprehended 11 individuals in the heart of downtown Los Angeles during a crackdown on retail theft.

The arrests took place on May 19, and law enforcement officers collaborated with retailers at the FIGat7th shopping plaza to conduct a targeted operation aimed at catching thieves. The area was heavily saturated with personnel to prevent theft and apprehend perpetrators.

Following the operation, the LAPD successfully recovered stolen merchandise, including a variety of items such as shoes, slippers, and a baseball cap.

The 11 individuals who were arrested have been identified as follows:

  • Nicole Allman-Dean, aged 19
  • Breajanika Johnson, aged 20
  • Serlo Allyene, aged 20
  • Nanely Esquivel, aged 21
  • Parris Gregory, aged 24
  • Donald Gregory, aged 28
  • Ailena Vargas, aged 33
  • Ted Newman, aged 34
  • Gabriel Simmons, aged 37
  • Ebony Holt, aged 47
  • Jerry Ivory, aged 57

Due to the Los Angeles County Misdemeanor Schedule, some of the suspects were cited and subsequently released, while others with outstanding warrants are currently being held in custody.

Organized retail theft has been a significant concern for businesses in Los Angeles County, with a reported 200 cases filed last year alone.

Retail crime has been on the rise across the state of California, prompting Democratic lawmakers to seek ways to combat theft while maintaining their progressive policies. They aim to address the issue of organized theft from businesses and implement measures to tackle the problem statewide.
