Authorities have reported that a man was taken into custody after stealing a Homestead police car and crashing it on Monday. The incident unfolded when officers from the Homestead Police Department responded to a rollover accident at the intersection of Northeast 8th Street and N. Homestead Boulevard.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officials discovered a suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Johnny Lott, along with items linked to the crash investigation. Despite being instructed to leave the area by an officer, Lott disregarded the directive and proceeded to enter a marked police vehicle before driving away.

Unfortunately, Lott lost control of the stolen car, leading to a collision with a fence at JD Redd Park. Subsequently, he was apprehended by authorities and taken into custody for further questioning.

Footage captured by Only in Dade depicted civilians assisting an officer in the arrest of the suspect, highlighting the community’s cooperation with law enforcement.

Johnny Lott now faces a range of charges, including grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft of police equipment, falsely impersonating an officer, and resisting an officer without violence. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities seek to establish the full extent of Lott’s actions.
