Accident – Death – Obituary News :
The man believed to be responsible for the tragic deaths of his two-year-old son and himself in Lismore has been identified as James Harrison, a resident of the town. This heartbreaking incident occurred just three months after an apprehended domestic violence order was issued against him.
The mother of the young boy contacted Lismore Police in the NSW Northern Rivers region when her ex-partner failed to return their son on Sunday afternoon at 4.30pm. Concerned for her child’s safety, she sought assistance from the authorities.
Upon arriving at Harrison’s residence at 6pm, police received no response when they knocked on the door of his unit. They decided to conduct further investigations before taking any action.
Later that evening, the boy’s grandmother contacted the police again to express her worries about the child’s well-being. This prompted officers to return to the unit and take necessary steps to ensure the safety of the occupants.
Investigation and Findings
Deputy Commissioner Peter Thurtell stated on Monday that it was evident to law enforcement that Harrison had taken his own life as well as the life of his young son. The circumstances surrounding this tragic event are currently under investigation by the coroner.
Thurtell also mentioned that there was no weapon involved in the incident. It appears that Harrison had devised a method that resulted in the deaths of both himself and the child.
Previous Legal Action
Records from the court reveal that Harrison’s former partner had obtained an apprehended domestic violence order against him in February. This order prohibited him from engaging in any form of assault or threat towards his ex-partner, as well as from stalking, harassing, or intimidating her. Additionally, he was forbidden from causing harm to any property or animal belonging to her.
While Harrison had been known to the police for previous domestic violence-related issues, Deputy Commissioner Thurtell clarified that they were not considered to be significant incidents.
