More than a year after an 11-year-old girl tragically lost her life in Fairfield while using a school crosswalk, the Solano County District Attorney’s Office has taken action against the woman believed to be responsible for the fatal incident.
Authorities in Fairfield announced on Friday that, following an extensive investigation by the police department, an arrest warrant was issued for 32-year-old Fairfield resident Elena Lindsey McGraw-Ogans. The suspect was taken into custody on May 16 and charged with vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
The incident in question occurred on March 23, 2023, when Fairfield police responded to reports of a child being struck by a vehicle near Grange Middle School. The young girl was using the crosswalk at the time of the collision.
During the investigation, it was determined that McGraw-Ogans was the driver of the vehicle involved in the tragic accident. Evidence, including witness statements and forensic analysis, suggested that she was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the incident.
In addition to the charge of vehicular manslaughter, McGraw-Ogans was also arrested for felony driving under the influence and child endangerment. It was revealed that there were minor children in her vehicle at the time of the crash, further exacerbating the severity of the charges against her.
Despite being released following her initial arrest, authorities continued to gather evidence and build a case against McGraw-Ogans. This effort culminated in her re-arrest on the recent date mentioned.
As of now, a court date for McGraw-Ogans has yet to be scheduled as legal proceedings continue.
