Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Residents of the Jacobs neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, are reeling after a recent hit-and-run incident involving two children has reignited long-standing concerns about excessive speeding in the area.

According to witnesses in the 3600 block of Parthenia Avenue, speeding drivers have become a common sight, with some vehicles reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour on the residential street.

Walter Wilson, a local resident, expressed his frustration, stating, “You can hear them. They are going at least 40, 50, 60 miles per hour down the street.”

Neighbour Dustin Dodson shared his own experience of the dangers posed by speeding drivers, revealing that he has had multiple cars damaged while parked on the street due to reckless driving.

Despite the presence of speed limit signs, incidents continue to occur. On a recent Saturday afternoon, a car struck a 7-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl who were walking along the road. The boy is currently fighting for his life, while the girl is recovering in hospital.

Concerned resident Wilson highlighted the risks posed by speeding vehicles, stating, “There’s an interstate where speeding is expected, but in our neighbourhood, such reckless driving puts our children in danger.”

The driver responsible for the hit-and-run, identified as 19-year-old Katherine Hall, has been arrested and faces charges including leaving the scene of an accident and assault. Hall pleaded not guilty, with her attorney arguing that the assault charges should be dropped due to lack of evidence of intoxication or distraction.

Court documents reveal that Hall was also charged for driving without a valid license or insurance at the time of the incident.

Residents of Parthenia Avenue are calling for immediate action to address the speeding issue, with many advocating for the installation of speed bumps to deter reckless driving in the neighbourhood.

“They need to do something to slow people down,” Dodson emphasised. “People drive like maniacs around here.”

As part of her bail conditions, Hall has been ordered to have no contact with the victims or to enter the 3600 block of Parthenia Avenue. She is also prohibited from operating any motor vehicle until her next court appearance scheduled for May 29.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of speeding in residential areas and the urgent need for measures to ensure the safety of all road users.
