Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities have officially identified the man who was fatally shot last week in Santa Rosa after a confrontation between two individuals near downtown. Bryan Mendez, a 20-year-old resident of Windsor, was shot multiple times in the chest at around 9:10 p.m. on May 13 in the 700 block of Slater Street, according to Santa Rosa police.

The incident occurred when Mendez emerged from an apartment on Slater Street and came across a heated argument between a 21-year-old woman and her acquaintance, Diego Kona Kekhuna, 19, from Sacramento. Kekhuna allegedly shot Mendez during the altercation.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found Mendez unresponsive and pronounced him dead near the apartment. The Sonoma County Coroner officially identified Mendez on Monday following the tragic incident.

After the shooting, Kekhuna reportedly concealed the gun in the wheel well of a parked truck before fleeing north on Slater Street, away from downtown Santa Rosa. However, Santa Rosa and Elk Grove police were able to track him down and arrest him at a relative’s home in the 9400 block of Ranch Park Way in Elk Grove around 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Kekhuna is currently facing murder charges in connection with Mendez’s death.
