LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) – A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly threatening a woman with a handgun and leading police on a chase.
Laredo Police arrested Juan Diego Robles Rubio, 36, and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest, tampering with evidence, and resisting arrest.
The incident took place on Sunday, May 19 at around 9 p.m. when officers responded to a call regarding an assault at an apartment on the 1500 block of Calle Del Norte.
The victim informed the police that Robles Rubio had pointed a gun at her head, made threats against her life, and then fled the scene in a grey Nissan Titan.
Law enforcement officers were able to track down the truck as Robles Rubio was attempting to escape. However, he continued driving until his tires were punctured near Del Mar.
After abandoning the vehicle, Robles Rubio attempted to flee on foot near H-E-B, but was apprehended by the officers.
Following the arrest, investigators discovered two weapons in Robles Rubio’s possession. One of the firearms was found inside the car and was identified as a modified long rifle that had been tampered with. The other weapon was recovered near the hospital parking lot on Calle del Norte and Springfield.
According to Investigator Joe Baeza, Robles Rubio was found to be in the country illegally, which may lead to additional federal charges related to the possession of the firearms.
