Accident – Death – Obituary News :
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating an incident where a San Diego Police officer shot a man at a Chollas View apartment complex. The incident took place at around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday at an apartment complex in the 400 block of 47th Street, near the 47th Street Trolley Station.
According to sheriff’s officials, the incident unfolded after a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend threatened to shoot through the door if she did not let him inside her apartment unit. Fearing for her safety, the woman allowed the man to enter the apartment. Once inside, the man threatened to shoot her and then left the apartment with their baby.
Upon the arrival of SDPD officers, the man fled the scene on foot with the child, running through the trolley station and eventually ending up at another apartment complex in the 200 block of 47th Street. As officers searched the area, the man hid in a bush with the baby.
One officer spotted the man hiding in the bush and ordered him to come out with his hands up. Unfortunately, moments later, an officer-involved shooting took place, resulting in the man being struck by at least one gunshot. First aid was administered at the scene before the man was taken to the hospital.
The man, identified as a 29-year-old Black man from San Diego, underwent surgery overnight and is expected to survive. Fortunately, the baby girl was unharmed during the incident and was safely returned to her home.
Per county protocol, the sheriff’s Homicide Unit is now investigating the circumstances that led to the San Diego Police officer opening fire. Investigators recovered one firearm at the scene and believe there may be more weapons outstanding.
