Expeditious Granting of Bail to the Juvenile

A juvenile court swiftly granted bail to the teenage driver within 15 hours of the incident, under specific conditions. The court mandated the teenager to familiarize himself with traffic regulations and collaborate with the Traffic Police for a period of 15 days. Additionally, he was instructed to compose a 300-word essay on the societal repercussions of road accidents and potential solutions.

The court deemed the offence not grave enough to warrant denying bail to the juvenile, who reportedly has connections to influential individuals.

Moreover, the court directed the teenager to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and seek assistance at a de-addiction facility. He was also required to deliver a presentation on traffic laws before the Juvenile Justice Board. The court stressed the importance of him aiding road accident victims in the future.

Legal Action Against Father and Bar Establishment

Meanwhile, an official involved in the investigation disclosed that charges would be filed against the father of the underage driver of the luxury vehicle involved in the fatal accident in Pune, as well as the bar that purportedly served alcohol to the minor. The 17-year-old driver was taken into custody following the registration of a case against him. He was presented before a juvenile court, which granted him bail within a mere 15 hours.

“In the accident case, legal action is being pursued against the father of the accused and the bar that provided liquor to the juvenile/accused under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act,” stated Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar in a press release.

As per section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, an individual exercising actual control or guardianship over a child can face penalties if they intentionally assault, abandon, or neglect the child, causing mental or physical harm. Section 77 pertains to the provision of alcohol or drugs to a child.
