Pune Police has taken action against the father of a 17-year-old boy who was found behind the wheel of a speeding Porsche that tragically collided with a motorbike, resulting in the untimely deaths of two individuals in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Furthermore, a separate case has been lodged against the establishment that allegedly provided alcohol to the underage driver, in violation of the law.

Legal Action Under Juvenile Justice Act

The charges have been filed under Sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Section 75 holds individuals accountable if they willfully neglect or mistreat a child under their care, leading to physical or mental harm. On the other hand, Section 77 deals with the act of supplying alcohol or drugs to a minor.

Moreover, the police have announced their intention to appeal to a higher court for permission to try the accused as an adult. Following the Juvenile Justice Board’s controversial decision to grant bail to the young offender within a mere 15 hours of his arrest, public outcry has been widespread.

Conditions of Bail

As part of the bail conditions, the teenager is required to collaborate with the traffic police in Yerwada for a period of 15 days, pen an essay on road accidents, seek treatment for his alcohol consumption issue, and attend counselling sessions.

Details of the Incident

Reports from the scene suggest that the youngster, son of a prominent real estate developer, was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Charges have been brought against him under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, as well as relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The fatal crash occurred around 3.15 am in Kalyani Nagar, where the high-performance vehicle, allegedly travelling at speeds exceeding 200 km per hour, collided with the motorcycle before careening into the roadside railings.

Victims Identified

The victims of the tragic accident have been identified as Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both engineers hailing from Madhya Pradesh and employed in Pune. The pair, along with other friends, were on their way home following a gathering at a local restaurant.
