Noida: In Sector 104 of Noida on Saturday evening, a tragic incident unfolded in a newly opened hotel. A fire broke out in Hotel Moon, claiming the life of a 27-year-old woman named Palak, who was a physiotherapist by profession. Her friend Tarun Kumar, an engineer from Delhi’s Mayur Vihar phase 1, was left critically injured in the blaze.
Palak and Tarun were among the first guests to stay at Hotel Moon, which had just opened its doors on Akshay Tritiya on May 10. They had booked a room on the top floor of the six-storey building, unaware of the tragedy that would unfold.
According to Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Pal, the hotel staff initially tried to extinguish the fire themselves for about half an hour before contacting the fire department. By the time help arrived, the flames had already spread uncontrollably.
Fire Outbreak and Rescue Efforts
“We received an emergency call at 5.35pm, and immediately dispatched ten fire tenders to the scene. The firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control in just 25 minutes. However, the fire had already engulfed the fourth floor, leading to smoke reaching the sixth-floor room where Palak and Tarun were staying,” Pal explained.
Rescuers were able to evacuate the unconscious victims from the sixth floor, but sadly, Palak succumbed to her injuries upon arrival at a nearby hospital. It was revealed that the hotel, leased by Vimlesh Jha to Akash Sharma, had failed to inform guests promptly about the fire outbreak.
Cause of the Fire
Initial investigations point towards a possible short circuit during the installation of air conditioning units on the fourth floor as the cause of the fire. Shockingly, the hotel did not possess a no objection certificate from the fire department, despite being equipped with firefighting equipment,” Pal added.
One hotel staff member admitted to the initial confusion and lack of preparedness when the fire broke out. They stated that they were alerted by nearby shop owners and attempted to tackle the flames with limited success.
