A body believed to be a missing teenager who disappeared in the Merced River over a week ago has been recovered by the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, according to a statement released on social media. The body was found around 4:15 p.m. approximately one mile downstream from Hagaman Park.

Although the body matches the description of the missing teen, authorities have not been able to confirm the identity at this time. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office stated that they hope to have the male’s identification in the coming days and will provide an update as soon as possible.

Expressing sympathy for the family, the sheriff’s office said, “Our thoughts are with his family. We know it has not been an easy week, however, we hope to provide closure to the family soon.”

FOX40 recently spoke with diver Juan Heredia, who has assisted the sheriff’s office in recovering two bodies in the past three months. One of the bodies recovered was that of Xavier Martinez, a teen from Stagg High School, who was found in the Calaveras River following an incident on the school’s campus.

The second body recovered was identified as 30-year-old Brenda Duran, who tragically lost her life in the San Joaquin River while trying to save her daughter from drowning. Her body was discovered just days before Mother’s Day.

Heredia’s efforts have been invaluable in assisting law enforcement in recovering bodies from various waterways in the region. The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude for his dedication and expertise in these challenging operations.
