Accident – Death – Obituary News : An unfortunate incident took place in Georgetown, as a 19-year-old labourer from Lot 105 Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara, lost his life due to electrocution while working on a building project. The victim, identified as Bryan Hardial, was employed as a gutter installer by Unitech Awning and Shutter Manufacturer. The tragic incident occurred on Friday at a construction site located at 27 Norton Street in Georgetown.

Hardial, accompanied by a 53-year-old co-worker, was tasked with installing gutters on a three-storey building under construction. As per reports, at around midday, while working on the third floor of the building, Hardial accidentally made contact between the aluminum gutters and electrical wires on a lantern post. This contact resulted in a fatal electrocution, causing Hardial to fall from the third floor to the ground below.

It is worth noting that at the time of the incident, the surroundings were wet, and Hardial was not wearing appropriate protective gear or boots. Following the tragic event, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) were called to the scene, and Hardial was swiftly transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). Unfortunately, despite medical intervention, he was pronounced dead at 1:00 pm on the same day.

Police authorities conducted an examination of the deceased’s body, noting visible swelling and bruises. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the electrocution are currently ongoing to determine any potential liabilities or negligence.

This distressing incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols and wearing appropriate protective equipment in hazardous work environments. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Bryan Hardial during this difficult time.
