Accident – Death – Obituary News : Auburn University football player Brian Battie was among the victims injured in a shooting that took place in Sarasota, Florida in the early hours of Saturday morning, as reported by multiple sources. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. prompting the Sarasota County Sheriff deputies to respond to a report of gunfire in the 3400 block of 17th Street in Sarasota, according to a press release issued by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

Tragically, one individual succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while four other victims were rushed to local hospitals for treatment, law enforcement officials confirmed. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as Tommie L. Battie IV, with local outlet WSFA reporting that the victim is actually the brother of Brian Battie.

Following the shooting, authorities had to close off one eastbound lane near the location of the incident to conduct a thorough investigation. It has been stated by the police that the shooting seems to be an isolated occurrence, with no immediate threat to the wider community.

“We are aware of the situation and are continuing to gather information,” the Auburn spokesperson informed AL.com regarding the incident. Despite outreach, responses from both Auburn University and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office are still pending.

In a show of solidarity, a social media account associated with Auburn University, titled “AUFAMILY,” posted on social media requesting prayers for Brian Battie and his family during this difficult time.
