CLEARFIELD, Utah, May 18, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 23-year-old driver has been taken into custody by Clearfield Police after a series of alarming incidents that involved assault, property damage, and intoxicated driving.

According to Clearfield Police, officers responded to a report of a suspected DUI in the area of 19 N. Main. The driver, identified as Adrian James-Gabriel Rivas, allegedly brandished a firearm at the complainant before engaging in a physical altercation and fleeing the scene.

The police affidavit stated that the complainant had observed Rivas swerving on I-15 before confronting him at a Baskin-Robbins. Rivas then reportedly struck another driver through their vehicle’s window before driving to 19 N. Main.

Upon parking his vehicle, Rivas entered an apartment briefly before attempting to flee when an officer blocked his path. In a reckless attempt to escape, Rivas collided with multiple vehicles, a pedestrian, and property in the area.

Subsequent investigations revealed the presence of a loaded firearm, controlled substances, and drug paraphernalia in Rivas’ possession at the time of his arrest.

Rivas faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, possession of a dangerous weapon, failure to comply with law enforcement commands, property damage, drug possession, and several misdemeanors and infractions related to his actions.

He is currently being held without bail pending further legal proceedings.

  • Possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person (third-degree felony)
  • Failure to stop at command of law enforcement (class A misdemeanor)
  • Property damage/destruction — loss of $500 to $1,499 (class A misdemeanor)
  • Possession of a controlled substances schedule I/II/analog (class A misdemeanor)
  • Assault (class B misdemeanor)
  • Interfering with a peace officer (class B misdemeanor)
  • Alcohol restricted driver (class B misdemeanor)
  • Driving under the influence, first offense in 10 years (class B misdemeanor)
  • Reckless driving (class B misdemeanor)
  • Six counts of failure to comply with duties at vehicle accident/property damage (class B misdemeanor)
  • Ignition interlock violation (class C misdemeanor)
  • Driving on suspended or revoked license (class C misdemeanor)
  • Operating vehicle without insurance (class C misdemeanor)
  • Disorderly conduct fighting/violent, tumultuous behavior (infraction)
