Accident – Death – Obituary News :
A tragic incident unfolded in Greensboro on Saturday, resulting in the death of a man who was shot by police officers. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Gerald Pinckney.
The Greensboro Police Department received a distress call at around 8:27 a.m. reporting an armed individual in the vicinity of the 3000 block of Lawndale Drive. Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered Pinckney, who was visibly armed with a handgun.
Despite repeated warnings from the officers to drop the weapon, Pinckney disregarded their commands and proceeded to advance towards them while brandishing the gun. Faced with a perceived threat to their safety, one of the officers discharged their firearm, striking Pinckney.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were immediately summoned to the scene, and the officer administered initial first aid to Pinckney before he was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Tragically, Pinckney succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Greensboro Police Department has initiated an investigation into the incident, and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has been called in to conduct an independent probe. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
