ASHE COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) – An 18-year-old man was taken into custody after law enforcement officers discovered over five pounds of marijuana in his possession during a routine traffic stop in Ashe County.
According to the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on May 7 in the Jefferson area, where a deputy observed a vehicle committing multiple traffic violations.
The deputy pulled over the vehicle and identified the driver as Joshua Cordoba, a resident of Catawba, N.C. Cordoba was found to be driving with a suspended license.
Upon conducting a search of Cordoba’s vehicle, deputies uncovered three concealed firearms, a significant amount of cash, in addition to the substantial quantity of marijuana weighing over five pounds. Authorities also seized a bag containing mushrooms and various drug paraphernalia items.
Joshua Cordoba faces several charges, including felony possession of a schedule VI controlled substance, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon, driving with a revoked license (not under the influence), resisting a public officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Following his arrest, Cordoba was taken to the Ashe County Detention Center, where he was later released on a $40,000 secured bond.
