The authorities have successfully captured the individual believed to be responsible for the heinous killing of the wife of a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) nearly nine months ago. The suspect, identified as Vinod Kumar from Hoshiarpur district, attempted to evade justice by fleeing to Bangkok following the crime. However, law enforcement managed to apprehend him upon his return to India, leading to his arrest at Kolkata Airport.
The victim, 43-year-old Ranjit Kaur, resided alone while her husband and two sons lived abroad. It was revealed that Ranjit Kaur had established a connection with Vinod Kumar through the social media platform Facebook. The accused frequently visited her in Payal, and on September 4, 2023, a tragic altercation unfolded during one of his visits, resulting in her untimely demise.
Previous Criminal Record of the Accused
According to DSP Nikhil Garg, Vinod Kumar had a history of involvement in criminal activities, including cases related to attempted murder, drug trafficking, and theft. In 2017, he had set up a travel agency and initiated contact with Ranjit Kaur through social media. Vinod Kumar harbored aspirations of travelling to Europe and had submitted visa applications to several countries, only to have his plans disrupted by the issuance of a Look Out Circular (LOC) by the Khanna Police. As investigations into the case progress, the suspect’s remand has been extended for four days.
It is essential to note the swift action taken by law enforcement in apprehending the suspect and bringing him to justice for the brutal murder of Ranjit Kaur. The authorities are dedicated to ensuring that individuals who commit such heinous acts are held accountable for their actions.
