Tragic Single-Car Crash Claims Life of Passenger in Flanders

A tragic incident unfolded on County Road 104 in Flanders on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the loss of a young man’s life, as confirmed by Southampton Town police.

At approximately 5:43 p.m., a single-car crash took place between Sunrise Highway and the County Road 31 traffic circle. Investigators revealed that a vehicle travelling north on CR 104 veered off the road and collided with a tree.

Both the driver and a passenger were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Sadly, the passenger, identified as 24-year-old Walter Joel Garcia from Calverton, succumbed to his injuries.

In the aftermath of the crash, authorities closed off CR 104 between the traffic circle and Pleasure Drive until around 8 p.m. Southampton Town detectives have since taken over the investigation to determine the cause of the tragic accident.

Attempted Fraudulent Check Cashing Incident at Riverhead Walmart

On Friday night, Riverhead police responded to a call from the Walmart store on Route 58 reporting an attempted fraudulent check cashing incident involving an unidentified adult male.

Law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene and apprehended the suspect, later identified as Michael Richards, aged 34 from Elmont, as he attempted to flee on foot. Richards was subsequently charged with identity theft in the first degree, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, and obstructing governmental administration.

Following his arrest, Richards was processed and held for arraignment at Riverhead Town Justice Court as the investigation into the incident continues.

Serious Injury in Wading River Bicycle Collision

A harrowing collision between a car and a cyclist in Wading River on Monday left the rider, identified as 77-year-old Edward Gallagher from Wading River, with severe injuries.

The incident occurred around 1:51 p.m. between East Wind Drive and Hulse Landing Road, with the driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old woman, remaining at the scene to cooperate with authorities. The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team has been called in to assist with the investigation.

Riverside Man Robbed of £460 in Strong-Arm Incident

In a distressing turn of events on Flanders Road and Riverside Drive in Riverside, a local man reported being forcefully deprived of £460 by an unidentified man and woman in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, who appeared to be highly intoxicated during the incident, described the suspects as a black male and a white female to the authorities.

It is important to note that individuals mentioned in police reports have not been convicted of any crimes, and charges against them may be subject to change or dismissal.
