Mumbai Man Arrested for Allegedly Raping Woman Under False Job Promise

A man in Mumbai has been taken into custody for reportedly sexually assaulting a 24-year-old woman under the false pretense of offering her employment, as confirmed by the local authorities on Saturday.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Worli police station in the city, with the arrested individual identified as Joseph James, aged 50.

Police Account

According to the Worli Police, the victim, a resident of Thane, was in search of a job and sought assistance from a male acquaintance. Subsequently, the acquaintance provided her with the contact number of a person named Joseph, advising her to get in touch with him.

On a Thursday evening, the victim’s associate informed her that Joseph wished to meet her in Khar. Responding promptly, she took a taxi to Khar, where she was joined by her friend and Joseph. The trio then proceeded to a hotel, where they consumed alcohol before departing for their respective homes around midnight.

Further statements from the victim reveal that while en route to Khar station, Joseph offered to drop her off, claiming that train services were unavailable at that hour and suggesting she sleep in his vehicle instead.

At approximately 3 am, while the victim was asleep in the car, Joseph allegedly began to sexually harass her. When she resisted, he forcibly undressed her and committed the assault. The victim also disclosed that Joseph issued threats to dissuade her from disclosing the incident to anyone.

Legal Action

Despite the threats, the victim confided in a lawyer friend, who urged her to report the matter immediately. Consequently, she approached the nearest police station and lodged a formal complaint.

Upon receiving the victim’s complaint, the Worli police initiated legal proceedings and apprehended the accused individual.
