Electrocution

A tragic incident occurred in Ekeki Police Station, Azikoro Road, Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, where a Nigerian father of two, known as Amas, lost his life due to electrocution.

Amas, who was not a staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), lived in the neighbourhood and was on a high-tension pole to connect clients to the federal line when the unfortunate incident occurred.

Reports indicate that the state experiences poor power supply, making the federal line the preferred and more stable option with assurances of 12-13 hours of power daily.

Hailing from Nembe Local Government Area, Amas was stuck on the pole for hours before PHCN officials arrived to rescue him. Eyewitnesses shared their shock and disbelief at the sudden loss of a community member.

One witness, Micheal Orubo, expressed his grief, saying, “Amas was a familiar face in our street, always taking care of electrical connections in the area. It is heartbreaking to see him meet such a tragic end. He was a dedicated father who worked hard to provide for his family.”

Another witness recalled the moments leading up to the incident, stating, “I saw Amas just minutes before the tragedy. It was a sudden and shocking turn of events. Despite our efforts, we were unable to assist him due to the dangerous conditions.”

It took several hours for PHCN personnel to retrieve Amas’s lifeless body from the pole, leaving his family and the community in mourning. His mother, who runs a nearby shop, was devastated by the news and struggled to come to terms with the loss.

The tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the risks faced by individuals working in the electrical industry and the importance of safety measures in such environments.
