The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. on May 9 when the 12-year-old girl was waiting at a bus stop. An unidentified man approached her, inquired about her age and destination, and then proceeded to ask if she would consent to engaging in sexual activity with him. The frightened girl, claiming to be 14, boarded the bus with the man.
While on the bus, the girl managed to snap a photo of the man, which she promptly sent to her parents along with a distress message indicating she was being followed. Upon reaching her destination in East Sacramento, the girl disembarked the bus, and the man did the same, prompting her to call 9-1-1 for assistance. Subsequently, the man walked away upon realizing the girl had alerted the authorities.
Suspect Identification and Criminal History
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office utilized facial recognition software to identify the suspect as 36-year-old Kahlilullah Razaq. Razaq had previously been convicted in Sacramento County for lewd and lascivious acts involving a child under 14, resulting in a six-year prison sentence. Furthermore, in 2016, while on parole, he was arrested and convicted of indecent exposure.
Notably, Razaq found himself in legal trouble again on March 22, 2024, when he propositioned an undercover sheriff’s deputy for sex in exchange for money. Despite being released pending trial, Razaq’s troubles escalated on May 10, 2024, when deputies arrested him for violating his parole by allegedly attempting to solicit a minor for sexual activities.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Following his arrest on the parole violation charge, Razaq was remanded to the Sacramento County Main Jail. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the case and is working to ensure the safety of the community.
