A 36-year-old man, Kahlilullah Abdul Razaq, previously convicted as a sex offender, has been arrested in Sacramento County for allegedly following a 12-year-old girl on a bus and asking her to have sex with him. The incident took place on May 9 at a bus stop in the county.
Arrest and Charges
Razaq was arrested on suspicion of contacting a minor with the intent of committing a sex act, as announced by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Following his arrest, Razaq was arraigned in Sacramento Superior Court.
Details of the Incident
The encounter began at around 2:30 p.m. when Razaq approached the girl at the bus stop, inquired about her age and destination, and then asked her if she wanted to engage in a sexual act. The girl, frightened by the situation, stated she was 14, and both boarded the bus that arrived at the stop.
The girl managed to take a photo of Razaq and sent it to her parents, alerting them that she was being followed. Razaq got off the bus at one point, stared at the girl through the window, and then re-boarded the bus.
Upon reaching her destination in east Sacramento County, the girl called 911 as Razaq followed her off the bus. Deputies responded to the call, but Razaq had already left the scene. The girl was safely escorted home by the deputies, who later identified Razaq through facial recognition software using the photo provided by the girl.
Prior Convictions
Razaq had previously been convicted in 2013 for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 in Sacramento County, resulting in a six-year prison sentence and registration as a sex offender. In 2016, while on parole, he was arrested and convicted of indecent exposure with an enhancement for his prior sex crime conviction. Razaq was released on parole earlier this year.
Further, on March 22, Razaq was arrested in a prostitution sting for offering money to an undercover female sheriff’s deputy in exchange for sex. He was released from custody five days later pending prosecution.
Recent Arrest and Custody
Following the incident with the 12-year-old girl, Razaq was arrested on suspicion of violating parole and has been in custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office child abuse bureau have further arrested Razaq for the latest criminal charge.
