A 22-year-old man accused of first-degree murder in the shooting of community leader Ma Kaing in East Colfax has been arrested in connection with another fatal shooting that took place six weeks prior, according to Aurora police.

Arrest in Separate Fatal Shooting

Lu Reh, the suspect in both cases, was apprehended while in custody at the Denver County Jail. An Adams County district judge signed a warrant for his arrest in relation to the death of 44-year-old Aurora resident Ricardo Ryans, who was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in an alley in Denver’s East Colfax neighbourhood on May 30, 2022.

Police discovered Ryans’ body between the 1600 blocks of Willow and Xanthia streets, and later found a Volkswagen Tiguan parked nearby with bullet holes and blood in the passenger seat.

Details of the Incident

A witness reported that the woman driving the vehicle had been running an errand with Ryans when an unknown assailant shot at the SUV. The incident occurred while they were driving near East 16th Avenue and Alton Street in Aurora. Ryans exited the vehicle and collapsed in the alley, prompting the woman to seek refuge in a nearby motel.

After an extensive investigation that lasted almost two years, Reh was identified as a suspect through witness testimonies and forensic evidence. He now faces charges of first-degree murder and second-degree assault with a deadly weapon in connection with Ryans’ death.

Legal Proceedings

In addition to his involvement in Ryans’ murder, Reh is also charged with the killing of Ma Kaing on July 15, 2022. He is scheduled to appear in Adams County District Court on June 5 for a hearing related to the two cases.
