Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The Telangana police have apprehended four individuals for spreading misinformation by sharing an old video related to the election process. The suspects, identified as Vurapalli Sravan, Mohammed Bin Ali Al Gutmi, Piddamulla Kashi, and Kanukati Mithilesh, were arrested for allegedly circulating a video with false information regarding electoral fraud.

The incident came to light when a vigilant citizen reported the video, which depicted a person voting multiple times at a polling station in Bahadurpura, Old City. However, upon investigation, it was revealed that the video was actually from the West Bengal elections in 2022 and not from the recent Lok Sabha elections in May 2024.

D. Kavitha, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crimes, stated that the dissemination of such misleading content could erode public trust in the electoral system. The accused individuals shared the video on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, falsely claiming that rigging had occurred in Bahadurpura.

Legal Action Taken

Following a complaint, the police launched an investigation under Sections 66(D) of the IT Act, Section 505(1)(C), and Section 171-C r/w 171-F of the IPC. The suspects were found to have deliberately spread false information with the intent of causing chaos and potentially triggering a re-election in Hyderabad.

It is crucial for individuals to verify the authenticity of information before sharing it on social media to prevent the spread of misinformation and uphold the integrity of the electoral process. The police have urged the public to be cautious and refrain from sharing unverified content that could disrupt the democratic process.
