Accident – Death – Obituary News : SAN MATEO – A trio of individuals hailing from Virginia have been apprehended in San Mateo County for their involvement in a roofing scam that targeted elderly residents in the Peninsula area.

The San Mateo Police Department initiated an inquiry in November 2023 after receiving reports of fraudulent activities. The investigation revealed that a group of men, characterized by their purported “Irish accents,” were operating a fictitious construction company by the name of “Statewide Roofing and Siding.”

Utilizing a counterfeit contractor’s license, the suspects engaged in unnecessary repair work and demanded exorbitant fees for incomplete services. Collaborating with law enforcement agencies across San Mateo County, investigators uncovered additional victims who had fallen prey to similar scams.

On May 7, another victim approached the San Mateo police, expressing suspicions regarding the roofing company hired to address issues with his mother’s residence. The victim recounted a sequence of events where the company, following a supposedly “free” inspection, escalated the scope of required repairs from minor fixes to an entire roof replacement.

Further scrutiny revealed that the perpetrators assumed false identities and operated under an alternate company name, “Teco Roofing and Masonry.” All three individuals involved in the scam, namely 22-year-old Charlie Anderson, 39-year-old David Anderson, and 40-year-old Darren Temple, were taken into custody and lodged in the San Mateo County Jail the following day.

The suspects are currently facing charges that include theft from an elder or dependent adult, obtaining money under false pretenses, fraudulent use of a contractor’s license, and conspiracy. Public records indicate that the trio remains incarcerated pending their court appearance scheduled for May 22.

Authorities have appealed for potential additional victims to come forward. Individuals who have engaged with the aforementioned companies for roofing services are urged to reach out to Officer Thornburg of the San Mateo Police Department at 650-522-7650.

For those impacted by the deceitful practices of the accused scammers, justice is being pursued diligently. The community solidarity in combating such fraudulent schemes serves as a beacon of hope for safeguarding vulnerable individuals against exploitation.
