The Columbus Police Department has released body camera footage showing Officer Michale Coley’s heroic actions in saving an elderly woman from a burning home in Columbus, Georgia.

On May 10, at around 12:44 a.m., Officer Coley was on patrol near Veterans Parkway and Hancock Road when he noticed the smell of smoke in the air. Despite no reports of a fire, Coley diligently searched the area until he discovered a home on Waterhill Road engulfed in flames.

Upon realizing the severity of the situation, Coley wasted no time in alerting the resident(s) inside the burning home. Neighbors informed Coley that an 89-year-old woman was the sole occupant of the house. With the fire rapidly spreading and no firefighters in sight, Coley made the split-second decision to enter the smoke-filled residence to rescue the elderly woman.

After locating the woman asleep in her bedroom, Coley safely escorted her out of the house, ensuring her well-being. Columbus Fire and EMS later arrived at the scene, and Coley, along with other bystanders, assisted the firefighters in extinguishing the blaze by pulling hoses from the trucks.

The Columbus Police Department released a statement commending Officer Coley for his quick thinking, bravery, and dedication in the face of danger. They praised his actions as a shining example of the department’s unwavering commitment to protecting and serving the citizens of Columbus.
