During her freshman year at Gettysburg College in 2013, Shannon Keeler experienced a traumatic event that would shape the course of her life. Years after the alleged assault, Keeler came across a disturbing message on Facebook from Cleary. In the message, he expressed a desire to hear her voice and questioned whether he had committed the heinous act. The chilling message, “So I raped you,” sent shockwaves through Keeler, prompting her to take action.

Despite her efforts to seek justice, authorities initially failed to act on Keeler’s accusations. It wasn’t until 2021, after a series of events including Keeler speaking out to the Associated Press, that an arrest warrant was issued for Cleary.

After a lengthy search, Cleary was finally apprehended in Metz, France, on April 24, 2024. He is currently in French custody awaiting extradition proceedings.
