An Atlanta police officer and former Marine, Kolby Minor, is facing a murder charge after a Lyft driver was found dead in Union City, just outside of Atlanta. This tragic incident comes just months after Minor was arrested in a drug case.

Details of the Incident

Union City police responded to a shooting incident early Wednesday morning at the intersection of South Fulton Parkway and Stonewall Tell Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of Reginald Folks, 35, the Lyft driver who had been fatally shot. Folks was reportedly driving the suspect at the time of the shooting, although the motive behind the killing has not been disclosed by authorities.

Kolby Minor, the alleged gunman, was still present at the scene when law enforcement arrived and was subsequently arrested in connection with the murder. Following his arrest, Minor resigned from his position as an officer with the Atlanta Police Department, where he had been serving since July 2018.

Minor’s Background

Prior to his career in law enforcement, Minor served as a rifleman in the Marines from 2010 to 2014. According to his LinkedIn profile, he was involved in leading battle drills for teams and was trained in the use of explosives.

Lyft’s Response

After the tragic death of their driver, Lyft issued a statement expressing condolences to Reginald Folks’ loved ones and offering support during this difficult time. The company also announced that Minor had been permanently banned from using their platform.

Legal Troubles

At the time of the shooting, Minor was on unpaid leave from the Atlanta Police Department due to a previous arrest for drug-related charges in Milton, Georgia, on December 25. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drugs not in their original container. Following this arrest, his service firearm was confiscated by the APD.
