Accident – Death – Obituary News : 27-year-old Joseph Okombo made a daring escape from Siaya GK Prison in Kenya on Wednesday, May 15, leaving authorities puzzled and on high alert. Okombo, who was serving a two-year jail term at the facility, managed to slip away under mysterious circumstances, leading to a massive manhunt by the police.

Accompanied by two fellow inmates, Fidel Omondi and George Akumu, Okombo orchestrated the escape, with Omondi and Akumu being reapprehended after sustaining gunshot wounds during the pursuit. Okombo, believed to be the mastermind behind the elaborate plan, remains at large, prompting a thorough search by law enforcement.

The escape unfolded in a dramatic fashion, with the trio taking advantage of a momentary lapse in security measures. Okombo had reportedly deceived prison wardens, allowing them to easily scale the prison walls and flee into the surrounding area. Despite the swift response from authorities, the inmates managed to scatter in different directions, creating confusion and chaos in their wake.

To deter the escapees, prison wardens resorted to firing warning shots into the air, hoping to intimidate the fleeing convicts. However, Omondi and Akumu defiantly continued their escape attempt, only to be met with gunfire from the pursuing officers. The resulting confrontation left the two accomplices injured, requiring medical attention at the Siaya County Referral Hospital under tight security.

Okombo, hailing from Ambira village in Ugunja Sub-County, remains a fugitive as law enforcement intensifies efforts to track him down. The escape has raised questions about the security protocols at Siaya GK Prison and highlighted the need for enhanced vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In a similar incident in November 2023, a man named Ryan Makaka managed to break free from Kamiti Medium Prison in Nairobi, only to be recaptured shortly after. Makaka, who was serving time for the murder of his girlfriend, received an additional two-year sentence for his escape attempt, underscoring the seriousness of such crimes.

As authorities continue their search for Okombo, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information that may aid in his apprehension. The escape serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by correctional facilities in maintaining security and preventing inmates from evading justice..
