Accident – Death – Obituary News : In a recent incident of online deception, a 32-year-old woman from Delhi fell victim to a ‘false’ investment platform, losing a staggering sum of Rs 23.5 lakh. The unfortunate turn of events unfolded when the victim, enticed by promising returns, began investing small amounts on the fraudulent website. Initially, she received profits on her investments, prompting her to inject more money into the scheme. However, her subsequent investments yielded no returns, and all attempts to reach out to the perpetrators proved futile.

The woman, determined to seek justice, lodged a complaint at the Northeast cyber police station on April 10, outlining the fraudulent scheme and the financial loss she incurred. Following the filing of the complaint, law enforcement authorities launched a thorough investigation, eventually tracing the accused individual responsible for the scam. The alleged perpetrator, identified as a 29-year-old man named Mohammad Daud, was located in the Maujpur area of Delhi.

The modus operandi employed by the fraudsters involved luring unsuspecting victims through a website promoting lucrative profits from stock market trading. The victim, having stumbled upon the platform on social media, contacted the provided number and engaged with the accused, who persuaded her to invest in the stock market. Initially investing a modest sum of Rs 1,000, the victim received a return of Rs 1,300 after her first trade, instilling confidence in the legitimacy of the website and prompting her to invest larger amounts.

However, the situation took a turn for the worse as the accused ceased all communication, leaving the victim in a state of financial distress. The police, in their relentless pursuit of justice, managed to recover a portion of the embezzled funds amounting to Rs 8.55 lakh from Daud’s bank account. The remaining sum had been dispersed across multiple accounts by the perpetrator.

Upon apprehending Daud, law enforcement authorities seized a cache of incriminating evidence, including 17 SIM cards, 11 debit cards, four passbooks, 15 cheque books, and a mobile phone. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), Joy Tirkey, shed light on the investigative process, highlighting the meticulous scrutiny of the money trail that led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the accused individual.

Daud, known for his fraudulent activities, collaborated with an associate in perpetrating the scam, with plans underway for the apprehension of the said accomplice. The swift and decisive action taken by the police underscores their unwavering commitment to safeguarding citizens against cyber fraud and bringing perpetrators of such crimes to justice..
