Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 71-year-old poet and founder of the Slovak Association of Writers, Juraj Cintula, has been identified as the man responsible for firing shots at Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico. A supporter of the opposition Progressive Slovakia party, Cintula used his licensed gun in the attack.

Slovak Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok described the incident as politically motivated, linking it to the aftermath of the presidential election. He also pointed fingers at “social media hate” as a contributing factor to the attack.

Despite sustaining critical injuries, Prime Minister Fico has regained consciousness following a lengthy surgical procedure. Reports from local media outlet TA3 and statements from Slovakian Environment Minister Tomas Taraba suggest that Fico’s life is no longer in immediate danger.

Taraba provided insight into the extent of Fico’s injuries, stating that one bullet struck his stomach while another hit a joint. The Prime Minister underwent surgery at the Roosevelt Hospital in Banska Bystrica after being transported by helicopter from Handlova, where the attack took place.

The incident occurred shortly after Fico had attended a government meeting and was greeting supporters. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailant shot the Prime Minister multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Fico, who leads the left-wing Smer-SD party, returned to office in October 2023 after serving two previous terms as Prime Minister. His stance on military aid to Ukraine, advocating for a negotiated settlement between Russia and Ukraine, has set him apart from many other European leaders.

The investigation into the attack on Fico is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the full extent of Cintula’s motives and any potential accomplices. The incident has sparked concerns about political violence in Slovakia and raised questions about the security measures in place for high-ranking officials.

As the nation awaits further updates on Fico’s condition and the progress of the investigation, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges and risks faced by political leaders in today’s turbulent times..
