Accident – Death – Obituary News : The tragic incident that occurred at the ‘Foxhill SuperCross 2024’ event in April has taken another heartbreaking turn, as the death toll has now risen to eight (08) with the passing of a 16-year-old female victim. The young girl tragically succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Badulla General Hospital last night, as confirmed by the Police Media Unit to Newswire.
The victim, a 16-year-old schoolgirl from Diyathalawa, has now joined the seven individuals who lost their lives in the initial accident, which also left 23 others injured after a car plowed into spectators at the sporting event. Following the incident, the drivers of the two cars involved were arrested but later released on bail as investigations continue.
In response to the tragedy, a seven-member investigation panel led by a Major General has been appointed to delve into the circumstances surrounding the accident and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Additionally, Sri Lanka’s Sports Ministry has extended support to the victims and their families by providing compensation.
The Sports Ministry has allocated Rs. 1 million each to the families of the deceased in the accident, while Rs. 250,000 each will be given to those who were injured in the tragic incident. This gesture aims to alleviate the financial burden faced by the affected families and ensure that they receive the necessary support during this difficult time.
As the investigation continues and efforts are made to prevent such accidents in the future, the community mourns the loss of lives and stands in solidarity with the victims and their families.
