Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident unfolded at the PES University campus in Bengaluru’s Electronic City, as a 21-year-old third-year B Tech student took his own life on Tuesday. This marks the third such incident at the university, with two previous suicides occurring earlier this year.

The student, identified as Carasala Rahul, was rushed to St John’s Hospital after the incident, but was declared brought dead by the doctors. The police have filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) at the Parappana Agrahara police station and are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

In response to the incident, the PES University released a statement expressing their condolences and highlighting Rahul’s excellent academic track record. The university stated that Rahul had attended a mentorship session on the day of the incident, and no red flags were raised during the session. The institution assured that they are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities, providing access to all information and videos to understand the events leading up to the student’s death.

The university emphasized the existence of a mentorship system for students, where each student is assigned a dedicated faculty mentor for support. The mentorship notes regarding Rahul will be shared with the authorities as part of the investigation. Additionally, the university mentioned their strong student counselling system, where students facing personal challenges can seek help from professional counsellors.

However, an anonymous social media post surfaced, alleging that the student was not allowed to write an exam due to arriving late, which led to warnings of a backlog. The post claimed that this incident was the third death at the university caused directly by the institution within a span of six months. It also raised concerns about the management’s handling of academic pressures on students.

A police officer, speaking to indianexpress.com, stated that the cause of the suicide is still unknown, and investigations are ongoing. The authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to verify claims of the student being denied entry to the exam. The officer highlighted the gravity of three suicide cases in a row, underscoring the need to understand the academic pressures and management practices at the university.

The tragic loss of Carasala Rahul has sparked conversations about mental health support and academic pressures in educational institutions. As the investigation continues, the PES University community mourns the loss of a promising student and strives to prevent such incidents in the future..
