AUBURN, Ala. (WTVM) – Two individuals from Auburn, 30-year-old Rifat Hassan and 62-year-old Robert Levett, were taken into custody by Auburn officials on Tuesday following an investigation into an alleged illegal gambling operation.
The arrests of Hassan and Levett come after authorities conducted a thorough investigation into illicit gambling activities taking place at a local business situated at the 2400 block of East Glenn in Auburn.
On May 8, detectives from Auburn developed a search warrant for the said business. Subsequent to the execution of the warrant, law enforcement officials discovered multiple gambling machines on the premises. Levett, who was reportedly the only person operating the business at the time of the search, was apprehended on charges related to conspiracy to promote gambling.
Further investigation revealed that currency was being obtained from the gambling machines, with evidence suggesting that the machines were being used to generate illegal profits. Hassan, identified as the owner and beneficiary of the unlawful proceeds from the gambling machines, was charged with conspiracy to promote gambling and possession of a gambling device.
Following his arrest, Hassan was taken to Lee County Jail and is currently being held on a bond of £600.
