Accident – Death – Obituary News : The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office has scheduled a press conference on Thursday to address the recent arrests made in connection with a harrowing case involving the attempted homicide and torture of a teenage girl from Thibodaux. Please be advised that the details of this story are extremely graphic, and viewer discretion is strongly recommended.

In a news release issued by the sheriff’s office on Wednesday, it was announced that Terrence Washington and LaTonya Harris have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation. The incident unfolded on April 21 when the Baytown Texas Police Department alerted the Terrebonne Parish authorities about a crash that had occurred in their jurisdiction.

Upon arriving at the scene on I-10 East, law enforcement officers discovered Washington, the driver of the vehicle, in possession of a firearm. He was promptly arrested, leading to the shocking revelation of a 15-year-old girl who had sustained severe burns and gunshot wounds to her chest and face. The suspects, identified as the girl’s mother (Harris) and her boyfriend (Washington), were accused of intentionally inflicting these horrific injuries on the teenager.

Following the incident, Harris, aged 40, and Washington, aged 41, along with a minor child, were apprehended by the Baytown Police Department in connection with the crash and the discovery of the injured teen. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment, while Harris also received medical attention for injuries sustained during the crash.

During questioning, Washington confessed to law enforcement officers that he had not only shot the teenager but also sexually assaulted her over an extended period. He revealed that the family had fled to Texas after the shooting took place. The minor child who was present with the family provided chilling details of how her mother, Harris, had repeatedly set the teenager on fire using rubbing alcohol and a lighter. The child recounted how the teen had been shot on multiple occasions and left untreated as the family journeyed to Texas.

A subsequent search of the family’s residence yielded incriminating evidence, including traces of gunshots, blood, and the odour of decomposing flesh. Further investigations led deputies from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office to Baytown, where Washington admitted to the shooting occurring on April 19. He claimed that the gun accidentally discharged, resulting in the teenager being shot in the face.

According to Washington’s account, Harris had burned the teen as a form of retribution upon learning of the sexual abuse. Harris, upon being discharged from the hospital on May 9, was taken into custody and now faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, cruelty to a juvenile, and domestic abuse battery child endangerment. She is currently being held in the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on a bail amount of $1 million.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Washington, who remains detained in Texas. Upon his return to Louisiana, he will be facing a litany of charges, including attempted first-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, obstruction of justice, molestation of a juvenile, indecent behaviour with a juvenile, and second-degree rape. The minor child has since been repatriated to Louisiana under the care of a family member.

The press conference addressing this disturbing case is scheduled to commence at 1 p.m. on Thursday, where further details are expected to be divulged..
