Following a tragic incident at a business on East Pine Street in Lodi, a suspect has been apprehended by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office. Gabriel Hernandez, a 41-year-old resident of Lodi, has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder, along with additional charges of felony possession of a firearm and being a prohibited gang member in possession of ammunition.
The arrest comes after deputies responded to a shooting report on the evening of May 13 in the 6000 block of East Pine Street. Upon arrival, they found a male victim, identified as 27-year-old Jorge Cortes Bejar, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, Bejar was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Through diligent investigative work, detectives identified Hernandez as the primary suspect in the case. On May 14, at 11:04 p.m., the Manteca Police Department located Hernandez’s vehicle near Louise Ave and Airport Road in Manteca. Following a brief pursuit, Hernandez was apprehended after attempting to flee on foot.
Hernandez is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court’s Manteca branch for arraignment on Friday. The swift action by law enforcement has brought a sense of closure to this tragic incident, providing some measure of justice for the victim and their loved ones.
