BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A patient at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center faces serious charges after allegedly attacking three staff members in a violent incident that occurred on April 3. Calvin Haskins, 34, has been indicted on five felony counts related to the stabbing of the employees.

The attack took place within a housing unit designated for outpatient residents at the Forest Avenue facility. According to authorities, Haskins carried out the stabbings in an area that did not require individuals to undergo weapons screening.

The victims, identified as a 45-year-old man, a 55-year-old man, and a 52-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to ECMC for treatment. The two male victims, who were stabbed multiple times, required an extended hospital stay to recover from their wounds.

Temporary orders of protection have been issued to safeguard the well-being of the three victims involved in the attack. Haskins was arraigned in Buffalo City Court and is currently being held without bail.

If convicted, Haskins could face up to 57 years in prison for the charges brought against him, which include two counts of second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and one count of second-degree assault.

Following a determination of his competency to stand trial, Haskins is scheduled to appear in court on July 2 for a pre-trial conference.
