Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 51-year-old man from Owensboro is currently facing multiple charges after attempting to evade deputies in his vehicle and on foot on Tuesday evening, as reported by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident unfolded around 9:30 p.m., when a patrol deputy witnessed a tan SUV speeding along Veach Road near Higdon Road. The driver, later identified as Roy Lee Wright, proceeded to run a stop sign at the intersection of Veach Road and East Byers Avenue, according to official statements.

Upon noticing the reckless driving behaviour, the deputy activated his emergency lights in an attempt to pull over the vehicle. However, Wright chose to ignore the signals and continued driving at a high speed. The deputy made the decision not to engage in a pursuit but managed to maintain visual contact as the SUV turned onto New Hartford Road. Central Dispatch was promptly informed of the vehicle’s whereabouts until it disappeared near Cemetery Street. Several DCSO Patrol Units were swiftly dispatched to the area to track down the elusive SUV, which was eventually located in the 1800 Block of Alexander Avenue.

Subsequently, a male individual was spotted fleeing north from the vicinity and scaling a fence behind Living Hope Church. Law enforcement officers then established a perimeter in the area and discovered Wright concealed in the bushes of a residence in the 1700 Block of Alexander Avenue.

Following a thorough search of the area, deputies came across a bag containing a substantial quantity of suspected methamphetamine and other drug-related paraphernalia that Wright had discarded during his escape attempt.

Wright was promptly apprehended and transported to the Daviess County Detention Center, where he was officially charged with a string of offenses that include disregarding stop signs, failure to signal properly, disregarding traffic lights, fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, criminal trespassing, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of controlled substances, and trafficking in controlled substances. In addition to these charges, Wright also had multiple warrants for his arrest, including failure to appear in court, domestic violence assault, non-payment of fines, and auto theft.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic laws and cooperating with law enforcement authorities. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office continues to work diligently to ensure the safety and security of the community, holding individuals who engage in criminal activities accountable for their actions..
