WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Tragedy struck at the Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas as an Air Force instructor lost his life in a fatal ejection incident during ground operations on Monday.

Authorities at the Sheppard Air Force Base confirmed that the instructor pilot passed away on Tuesday after being swiftly transported to the hospital for treatment following the accident.

The deceased was identified as Captain John Robertson, a member of the 80th Operations Support Squadron.

Colonel Mitchell J. Cok, the acting wing commander of the 80th Flying Training Wing, expressed profound sorrow in a press release, stating, “This is a devastating loss for Captain Robertson’s family and loved ones, and for the entire 80th Flying Training Wing. Captain Robertson was a highly valued Airman and instructor pilot. Our deepest condolences go with all who knew and loved him.”

No details were provided in the release regarding the circumstances that led to the ejection incident.

An investigation into the tragic event is currently underway, as per officials.
