SOLON, Ohio —

Police chase on Bainbridge Road

A high-speed chase unfolded on Bainbridge Road in Solon at 3:10 p.m. on May 7 when an officer attempted to stop a Ford pickup truck travelling at 65 miles per hour in a 35-MPH zone. The driver initially stopped and spoke to the officer before abruptly driving away.

The fleeing driver collided with an oncoming Lexus SUV before speeding away onto S.O.M. Center Road and eventually onto US 422. Despite a chase by law enforcement, the driver managed to evade capture at the US 422 split at I-271.

The suspect, a 50-year-old Maple Heights man, will face charges of fleeing and eluding, a third-degree felony, along with other related offences. Fortunately, the occupants of the Lexus SUV, an Aurora couple aged 73 and 70, were unharmed in the collision.

A 37-year-old woman returned home on May 6 to discover that several items were missing after being away for a week in April. The residence, shared with a 73-year-old man, had been burgled of gift cards, cash, clothing, and jewellery.

Authorities issued a warrant for a 30-year-old Cleveland woman who had been staying at the property as a house guest during the woman’s absence. It is believed that the 73-year-old man was not involved in the theft.

On May 9 at 8:50 p.m., an officer at Circle K on Aurora Road discovered that the driver of a red Honda, wanted by Cleveland police for domestic violence, was in possession of a firearm. The 40-year-old Cleveland woman was charged with improper handling of a firearm and handed over to Cleveland authorities.

A 43-year-old South Euclid woman was apprehended for theft at Giant Eagle on May 9 after attempting to leave the store with $92 worth of unpaid groceries. The woman was charged with theft.

A 73-year-old Solon man fell victim to a scam on May 9 after receiving a fraudulent email posing as PayPal. The scammer convinced the man to deposit money into a bitcoin ATM, resulting in a loss of $6,350.

A manager at Office Max reported a computer missing from a display on May 9. Surveillance footage revealed that a man stole the laptop on May 6 by concealing it in his coat and leaving the store without payment.

Employment scam on Solon Road

University student falls victim to scam

A 17-year-old University of Michigan student in Solon was targeted in a job scam on May 11. The student unwittingly provided bank information and purchased an Apple gift card before realising she was being scammed, resulting in a loss of $100.
