The individual who was fatally shot by a police officer in Kansas City, Kansas, late on Friday has been officially identified as 18-year-old Jordan Cole, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

According to a statement released by the state agency, which is currently conducting a thorough review of the incident, the shooting occurred while an officer was in the process of investigating a stolen vehicle that had been discovered in the vicinity of South 7th Street Trafficway and Interstate 35. At that time, three individuals fled from the vehicle, prompting the officer to pursue them.

During the chase, one of the men allegedly sought refuge in dense foliage and proceeded to fire at the officer from a concealed position. Fortunately, the officer managed to evade the gunfire, returning fire and striking Cole multiple times. Tragically, Cole succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the incident, a 16-year-old male who had also fled from the vehicle was apprehended on Friday. As of Monday, the third male who was involved in the incident remains at large and has yet to be identified or taken into custody.

The investigative findings related to this case will be submitted to Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree for further review and consideration.
