The family of a 36-year-old mother who was brutally attacked near Times Square in broad daylight is speaking out about the terrifying incident that has left them shaken.
Unprovoked Attack
John Lohr, the husband of Amber Lohr who was assaulted by a man with a knife while accompanying a group of schoolgirls on a class trip, has expressed their fear and trauma following the incident.
“We don’t feel safe in New York City anymore,” Lohr told the New York Post.
The shocking attack took place near Port Gourmet Deli on West 43rd and Eighth Avenue on a Saturday evening, sending shockwaves through the community.
Caught on Video
Amber Lohr was escorting the students near the deli when the assailant, identified as 61-year-old Cyril Destin, suddenly lunged at her with a kitchen knife, as captured on surveillance footage obtained by the New York Post.
The video shows the man walking out of the deli, placing his walker against the building, and then launching the vicious attack on Amber Lohr before calmly returning to his seat on the walker.
Repeat Offender
The suspected attacker, Destin, has a troubling history with the law, having been arrested 24 times over the past two decades for various offenses such as criminal mischief and trespassing, according to sources within the NYPD.
John Lohr described his wife as a hero for her bravery in protecting the children despite sustaining serious injuries in the attack.
Call for Justice
As the family grapples with the aftermath of the traumatic incident, they are calling for justice to be served. Destin has been charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, but the Lohrs believe he poses a continued danger to society.
“This man needs to be locked away where he cannot harm anyone else,” John Lohr insisted. “I will not rest until justice is served and he is held accountable for his actions.”
