In a viral TikTok video that has been making the rounds online, the bridesmaid can be seen fearlessly carrying the snake by its tail away from the startled wedding guests and into a nearby grassy area outside the venue.
The caption accompanying the video humorously reads, “Weddings in Arizona.”
A second TikTok video captures the moment the courageous bridesmaid captured the snake with her bare hands, leaving several guests in awe and shock at her bold actions.
Commenting on the TikTok videos, users commended the bridesmaid for her bravery and quick reflexes.
One user wrote, “I knew the tossing of the bouquet was outdated, but this is next level!” while another praised her as “an absolute baddie.”
Local news outlet KSAZ caught up with the heroic woman, identified as Erika Rodriguez, who attributed her snake-handling skills to her childhood admiration for wildlife expert Steve Irwin.
“As a kid, I was very tomboyish, so I was outside catching grasshoppers, toads, snakes, and whatever I could find,” Rodriguez shared with KSAZ. “Thank you, Steve Irwin.”
Rodriguez, who stands just over 5 feet tall, revealed that she is approximately the same height as the snake she handled.
