Accident – Death – Obituary News :

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A former deputy sheriff and school resource officer from Camden County, Missouri, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on multiple charges related to the distribution, possession, and receipt of child pornography.

The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury in Jefferson City, supersedes a previous criminal complaint filed against 49-year-old Darrin Marshall Skinner. Skinner, who previously served as a deputy sheriff and school resource officer in the Macks Creek School District, is facing three counts in the indictment.

In addition to the original charge of distributing child pornography, Skinner now faces charges of receiving and possessing child pornography. Prior to his employment in Camden County, Skinner worked as a police officer in Osage Beach, Missouri.

The investigation into Skinner began when the social media platform MeWe reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Cyber Tip Line that a user, later identified as Skinner, had uploaded images of child pornography. The report was then forwarded to the Camden County Sheriff’s Department, which turned the case over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol due to Skinner’s connection to the department.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Skinner was a member of several sexually themed social groups and had allegedly uploaded multiple images of child sexual abuse through the MeWe platform’s chat feature. He was found to have shared sexually suggestive photos of prepubescent girls, some of whom were identified as local minors associated with a gymnastics studio in the community.

Law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Skinner’s residence on August 1, 2023, and interviewed him as part of the investigation. Skinner is accused of sending child sexual abuse material, including images of children under the age of 12 and a pre-school age child, on multiple occasions through the MeWe platform.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa A. Pierce is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Digital Forensic Investigative Unit and the Missouri State Technical Assistance Team.

Project Safe Childhood

Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative led by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat the proliferation of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program aims to protect children from online predators and to educate the public about the dangers of child exploitation.

This case is still ongoing, and the charges in the indictment are allegations that will be presented to a federal trial jury for evaluation. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
