LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – The Lansing Police Department conducted a press conference on Tuesday afternoon to address the disturbing homicide that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The incident, which took place at approximately 7 a.m. on May 12, involved a violent altercation between Zacarri Marquise Taylor, aged 25, and multiple individuals near the 2100 block of Georgetown Boulevard.
Following the altercation, Taylor was forcibly removed from a residence by several suspects, leading to concerns about his well-being. Tragically, Taylor was later discovered dismembered at a location that has not been disclosed.
Lansing Police Chief Ellery Sosebee clarified that the altercation was not linked to gang activity. The individuals apprehended at the scene are currently undergoing the arraignment process, with Sosebee hinting at the possibility of additional arrests in the near future.
The suspects taken into custody in connection with the incident have been identified as Marcus Lee Hayes, aged 35, Leonard Felton Hayes, aged 42, and Terrance Jones, aged 37.
Lansing Mayor Andy Schor characterized the incident as a case of domestic violence, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.
In the initial quarter of the year, Ingham County reported zero homicides. In contrast, the first three months of 2022 saw four homicides in the county, underscoring the concerning rise in violent incidents.
The most recent homicide prior to this incident occurred on May 4, 2024, when 14-year-old Jaquez Moye-Young was found dead following a shooting. Mayor Schor reiterated the city’s commitment to addressing such heinous acts and preventing further tragedies.
Despite having multiple suspects in custody, the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the circumstances surrounding this brutal crime.
