A victim, reportedly known as 'Chef Corey', stabbed at Capitol Hill light rail station in Seattle, Washington on Saturday.

A beloved Washington State chef was tragically stabbed to death at a train station over the weekend, as per reports.

Seattle police confirmed that the victim, a 37-year-old chef known as ‘Chef Corey’, was brutally attacked at the Capitol Hill light rail station on Saturday. Upon arrival at the scene just before 6 p.m., officers found the victim in critical condition with multiple stab wounds.

The assailant, identified as a 26-year-old man, fled the area after the attack. Emergency responders provided immediate medical assistance to the victim and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead. A witness told KING 5 that multiple individuals were involved in the attack on the victim.

“They continuously assaulted him,” the witness recounted. “He fought back but was eventually pushed onto the rails and repeatedly punched to prevent him from getting up. At least two of them were punching him, preventing him from standing.”

The U.S. Marshals task force successfully apprehended a suspect in Eatonville, who is currently in custody for investigation on charges of murder, as stated by the police.

While the authorities have not officially released the victim’s identity, KIRO 7 reports that the deceased is “Chef Corey,” a talented sous chef at Harry’s Fine Foods. A close friend described him as an “exceptional individual.”

“He displayed remarkable resilience,” the friend shared in an interview with the news outlet. “And his culinary expertise was truly outstanding. I fondly remember his dishes all the time.”

The restaurant’s proprietors, Julian Hagood and Jake Santelli, issued a statement to local media: “We have temporarily closed our establishment to allow space for reflection, mourning, and honouring our dear friend and chef—a valued colleague and dedicated individual who poured his passion into every dish he crafted.”

They extended their sympathies to his family for the “unimaginable ordeal” and requested privacy for their staff during this difficult time.

Security at Capitol Hill station under scrutiny

Reports indicate that Sound Transit, the city’s public transport service, has heightened security measures at the Capitol Hill station as part of its $250 million commitment to enhancing security protocols.

In an interview with KING 5, the witness condemned the city’s response, stating that the tragic incident should never have occurred.

“The city has let him down,” he expressed. “They might as well have caused his demise themselves.”
