Voting is currently underway for North Carolina’s primary runoff election, with Republicans choosing their party’s nominees for Lieutenant Governor and State Auditor. The top candidates failed to secure 30% of the vote in the March primary, leading to the current runoff election.

Who Can Vote?

Registered Republicans are eligible to cast their ballot for these statewide races. Additionally, unaffiliated voters who either participated in the GOP primary in March or did not vote in that primary can also vote in the primary runoff election. A photo ID is required to cast a ballot, and voters must vote at their assigned polling place, which may be different from their usual spot. Polls will remain open until 7:30 tonight.

Salute to Heroes Awards Deadline

Today is the deadline to submit nominations for this year’s Salute to Heroes Awards, an initiative by the Triad Chapter of the American Red Cross to recognize local first responders, veterans, or everyday citizens who have performed extraordinary acts. The award ceremony is scheduled for September 26th in High Point. Make sure to nominate someone deserving of this recognition before the deadline.

Alamance Burlington School Board of Education

The Alamance Burlington School Board of Education is set to vote on a budget proposal for the upcoming school year. The interim superintendent presented a deficit reduction action plan with possible staff cuts during a special meeting earlier this month. Board members have expressed concerns about the proposed staff cuts and the need to inform impacted staff members. The board will convene for a work session today to vote on the proposal.

A man is facing a murder charge in connection to a homicide on Eversfield Road in Stokesdale. Guilford County deputies responded to the scene on Sunday, where they found a 38-year-old man, Tory Surface, with multiple gunshot wounds. Surface succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

On Monday, John Cain, 18, was arrested by Guilford County and Rockingham County deputies at a residence in Rockingham County. Cain has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently held without bond pending his first court appearance on Tuesday.
